US Navy F-14 recovery

The F-14B Tomcat was lost during operations off the USS John F. Kennedy in the Mediterranean. First hand reports suggested that the aircraft had crashed into the sea because of nose gear failure.

Phoenix International has its Remora II 6000m ROV – the only ROV of its work class available in the Mediterranean - permanently stationed at EDT’s base in Cyprus and immediately mobilized on the EDT Ares for Sicily. The EDT Ares arrived at location a day later successfully locating and salvaging the Nose Landing Gear from which the cause of the crash was ascertained; the lift of the aircraft main fuselage was successfully completed the next day.
